Why can’t I edit the Powerpoint or Word document?
When you download a file from the internet, Microsoft Powerpoint and Word will open the file in PROTECTED VIEW.
At the top of the document, there will be a yellow warning bar.
“PROTECTED VIEW: Be careful – files from the internet can contain viruses. Unless you need to edit, it’s safer to stay in Protected View.”
Beside this warning is a white “Enable Editing” button.
When you click that, you’ll be able to modify the document.
Note: Please practice safe computing.
This includes doing a virus scan from files downloaded from the internet – even if it comes from a trusted source or family member. (Here’s a free lesson about critical thinking and internet crime)
