As “Growth Mindset” becomes more and more of a buzzword in our classrooms and professional learning communities, it becomes a continuing struggle to find French resources about character, perseverance and recognizing that failure is actually learning.
We teach in Ottawa, Ontario and at our school, we have both a regular English stream (with Core French) and a French Immersion stream. I have many colleagues who will talk about having to show an English resource, but then having a discussion in French… simply because there aren’t as many (good) French resources available as English ones.
So, it was important for us to translate our “Obstacles” and “Strategies to Overcome Obstacles” posters into French.
As you can imagine, translating resources is costly and time-consuming. So we’re focusing on only translating the student resources (in this case, posters, handouts, and slideshow) into French. Unfortunately, the teacher lesson plan and information package are still in English, but this way, we can try to translate more Growth Mindset resources and other Six Cs Transferrable Skills lessons into French.
Hopefully, this helps our French Immersion and Core French colleagues bring on the new Ontario Learning skills / Transferrable Skills to their students!
